Happy Hours in Germantown

Review of Bailey's Pub & Grille

MCR Rating:

A happy hour with this rating is still a damn good happy hour, so don’t think you should only look at “Excellent.” It might have been deficient in few areas of our rating model, but these may be things some people don’t care about. So in some cases, a “Good” is no different than an “Excellent.”

What is Bailey's Pub & Grille?

Bailey’s is a casual restaurant and bar on the edge of Germantown’s newest commercial development near along Germantown Rd. The stand-alone establishment is actually more bar than it is restaurant (space-wise), with a very large bar area with stools, long tables, bar tables, and booths. There is also a side room with two billiards tables, and an outside porch-like area that sometimes hosts a “tiki bar.” Outside Area:  Yes.  There is a covered porch-like area that hosts smoking patrons, and occasionally a tiki bar. Entertainment:  Yes.  11+ TVs, 2 billiard tables

Our Review

For the beer fan, Bailey’s will be a welcome oasis in a desert of run-of-the-mill beer lists. With 35 beers on tap, and an untold number in bottles, Bailey’s is sure to satisfy any taste. Be careful though, the craft brews can run you upwards of $8 a bottle. For the more budget minded, there are a slew of happy hour beer deals to keep the costs down to at least $3 a beer. As for food, there are no specials; but the prices are not extravagant and the menu has a decent selection of tasty sandwiches and appetizers. The atmosphere is pretty chill: all seats are cushioned and the lighting is dimmed with tints of red. There’s not much of a music presence there, the ambient sound comes from the highly mixed crowd of casually- or professionally-dressed 20- to 40-somethings. The service there was pretty responsive, though not particularly engaging and friendly. One downer was the extremely sticky bar and menus; we wondered whether they “wash” everything with some kind of sugar solution. But with the bar condition being the biggest complaint, Bailey’s slides in with a pretty good happy hour rating due to the many drink deals and solid yet simple bar experience.

The Run Down

Beer fans take note: Bailey’s is serious about its beer selection and offers a good array of deals on their 35 draft offerings. If you like to settle into a place with a lot of character, you may find Bailey’s a bit lacking.
