Review of Buffalo Wings and Beer

MCR Rating:

The rating usually hits places that generally have nothing going for them, but one or two good aspects lift the rating from the bottom of the barrel. Use in case of alcohol emergency.

What is Buffalo Wings and Beer?

Buffalo Wings and Beer blends in with an unassuming strip mall off of Randolph Rd. The bar and many bar tables are located in the back. Booth seating lines one side of the front, opposite the billiards and foosball tables (separated by a half-wall) on the other side. Outside Area:  No. Entertainment:  Yes.  9+ flat screen TVs showing sports, billiards and foosball tables, darts, keno, two arcade games.

Our Review

In a county with ever-increasing amounts of bars/restaurants trying to be the next hip spot, Buffalo Wings and Beer (BWB) plays an important opposite role: stick to the basics of cheap beer and simple food (and pool tables don’t hurt either). The name itself exemplifies the unpretentious and uncreative environment. The atmosphere was calm and easy to mingle in, but with a bit more lighting compared to other billiards rooms, it lacked the cozy “stay here for a while” feeling. The music selection is run entirely by the jukebox, leaving quiet periods (as expected, songs picked ranged from classic to modern rock). The beer deals are quite decent, amounting to $1 off regular prices, which are not very expensive in the first place. And they do hold true to second part of their name: they have quite the beer variety to please most tastes. But take note: NO liquor is served here, so think twice if you tend to finish your happy hour with a shot of the hard stuff. There are no food specials, which was mildly disappointing since we were hoping for a good wing special to go along with the beer deals and its self-proclaiming name. But the typical menu of subs, sandwiches, and finger food is relatively cheap on its own, so we can’t complain too loudly. The bar/wait staff was friendly, prompt, and accommodating. Early on, the casual working-class crowd consisted almost entirely of middle –aged men, but by the end of the happy hour, the expanded patronage became more diverse age- and gender-wise (likely the result of a poker game starting at 7pm).

The Run Down

If you’re in the area and desire cheap beer and games/sports to keep you occupied, BWB is a place to be. If you want to meet women in a lively atmosphere over liquor drinks, you best rethinks.
