Happy Hours in Olney

Review of Olney Grill

MCR Rating:

The rating usually hits places that generally have nothing going for them, but one or two good aspects lift the rating from the bottom of the barrel. Use in case of alcohol emergency.

What is Olney Grill?

Olney Grill is a simple restaurant and bar in the center of Olney (Georgia Ave & Rt 108). The establishment is a bit hidden as it blends in very well with the rest of the strip mall and the entrance is along a pass between buildings. Once inside, the bar is an island style off to the right, and backs into the rest of the restaurant area. Full mirrors on many of the walls create a larger appearance and open atmosphere. Outside Area:  No. Entertainment:  No.

Our Review

I’ll admit, it is a bit odd doing a happy hour review on a place that doesn’t do happy hour. But the one upside is I get to eat and drink whatever I want, since I’m paying full price no matter what I get. Olney Grill’s menu carries a strong Cajun and barbeque flavor, with Asian influences thrown in here and there. The food is pretty good, and the prices are not oppressively high. Service is fast and accurate, but can be a little distracted since the restaurant drink orders keep the bartender busy. The crowd seemed to consist mostly of casual, middle-aged regulars, one even joking that someone was sitting in “his seat.” The atmosphere put me off a little bit. The bar and restaurant are not very separated, so depending on where you sit, your back is to the nearby tables with drink service running by, or your view is of the pretty busy seated portion. There is no music (or at least it wasn’t audible), so the ambient conversations set the soundtrack to your drinking experience. Overall, I didn’t find this place particularly memorable, and probably is best treated as “enjoy a sit-down dinner” option than a “get some drinks at the bar” option.

The Run Down

If you live in Olney and like Cajun-themed food, the Olney Grill is there to provide. Happy hour? What happy hour? Olney Grill is full price, full time.
